Assistant Accountant

The Role

The Assistant Accountant is responsible for assisting the accounts team with daily transaction tasks Accounts Payable, Accounts receivable, reconciliations, journals entries and monthly BAS.

Key Responsibilities as the Skilled Assistant Accountant are but not limited to;

  • Maintain daily bank reconciliations and ensure accuracy in all banking records.
  • Input data daily into XERO accounting system, Payables, Receivables, Credit Cards and upload all supporting documents in Xero.
  • Maintain accurate records of Suppliers and Clients in Xero.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams for timely Supplier invoice approvals.
  • Maintain Purchase Orders in inFlow system, fulfilling, payments and reconciliation of Open Purchase Orders.
  • Prepare Accounts Payable payment batches for the online banking system.
  • Prepare Customer ageing analysis and follow up outstanding invoices.
  • Ensure timely completion of Finance tasks and accounting journals to meet strict month end timelines.
  • Reconciliation of Balance Sheet Accounts as per guidelines, key and non-key recs.
  • Prepare BAS and FTC (Fuel tax credit) assist with other tax compliance matters
  • Prepare monthly Revenue reconciliation for review.
  • Ensure that internal controls are adhered to, reducing the risk of fraud, errors, and misstatements.
  • Analyse general ledger transactions to ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist in Preparation of accurate and timely financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
  • Assist with business process improvements
  • Assist the Finance team in other areas as needed.

To be considered the following would be ideal but not essential; 

  • Degree qualification in accounting, finance or commerce.
  • A minimum of 3-year accounting experience in a similar role Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable or Finance all-rounder position.
  • Excellent understanding of accounting process and principles.
  • Experience using Xero accounting system is preferred, or other ERP accounting platforms
  • Proven ability to manage competing priorities and maintain confidentiality.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent time management and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Must be team orientated, integrity and honesty.
